With this project, I started out with the idea of exploring social media and how its use can devolve to a manic dependence.
For my sound palette, I used recordings that are associated with the act of using technology/social media, juxtaposing them with a monologue about the absurdity of our social interactions online. The sounds I recorded and sampled include typing on a laptop keyboard, smartphone keypad typing, and smartphone ringtones. To render a kind of sonic mental breakdown, I layered and processed breathing, viola screeches, a photo copying machine, and a detuned guitar. At the core of the soundscape is a monologue performed by my computer through speech software built into the word processor.
